TRAINING.
Any one who is sincere about doing the B.G.R. has to be serious about the training to be undertaken. I know everyone is different, some can get away with little training, while others have to put in a great deal What you need is time out on your feet if you do not want to suffer too much. Plus the climbing in your legs.
Most runners have quite a few years running background, and would start their training app' 12 months before their attempt. Long fell races are good for building strength in your legs E.G. Ennerdale. Wasdale. Old County Tops. Mountain Trail. Welsh 1,000 Peris Horseshoe. Hill-reps are another way to strenghthen your legs, I've known some people to do step - ups on chairs, or run up and down a flight of stairs. Some say that you need to climb 10,000 ft a week.
Additional training can be Swimming, Weight-training, Cycling, etc Next you need time out on your feet, there are some longer events like the High Peak, the Fellsman, plus some of the L.D.W.A. events or you can run over the moorlands or in the Lakes if possible, the longer you are out the better. ( you get out, what you put in )
Here is a example of my training for the 42 peaks and 50 peaks B.G.R. ( training in 1988/9 was app' 5 times a week with some short road races midweek, and at week ends long runs up to 6 hours or a fell race. )
